We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Haddon House. In the three weeks since, we have not stopped talking about the warm hospitality of our host and charm of the house itself. The rooms in Haddon House are immaculate and combine modern comforts with original historical features. The house is conveniently located and easy to find from the highway if you have never visited Vancouver or Burnaby before. Mainly though, it is extremely warm and professional manner of hosting that has endeared Haddon House to us (never mind the breakfast experience the is Johannes' cooking!) and will bring us back for years to come. And altogether unforgettable stay, thank you Haddon House!
"Business Travel Has Never Been Better!"
The hotels were booked so I decided to give this B&B a try. I usually prefer a good luxury hotel over a B&B. Of course that has changed since my stay at the Haddon House.
I found the home very charming, yet modern and comfortable. My room was large and very tastefully decorated. There was a very comfortable bed, flat panel TV and wireless internet for keeping in touch with the office. Great views of the mountains or of the very quiet neighbourhood with its beautiful homes surrounded by mature trees. The best of all was the warmth and care of the home owners. Breakfasts are a culinary delight; truly superb! I love to cook and I must say the owner would do well to open a school. I learned a great deal from him and my wife and my wife has remarked on how much I have improved in the kitchen after my trip to Vancouver.
My stay was for only 3 nights and each day I enjoyed the Haddon House even more. I highly recommend it for anyone going to Vancouver.
"Wonderful Home and Host All Wrapped Into One Package"
My wife and I stayed here and found the experience to be wonderful. The home is absolutely beautiful. It is appointed with nice furnishings and is in a nice neighbourhood. As for the proprietors; you could not ask for anyone to be more congenial. We had wonderful conversation with fellow guests while enjoying a wonderful breakfast. We would heartily recommend the Haddon House to anyone visiting Vancouver.
The Haddon House was an outstanding and delightful place to stay. Johannes was a wonderful host and breakfast was wonderful. We were the only guests the night we stayed and it was very quiet. Location was great, close enough to the highway to be able to get around easily. The walk to the lake was great, even in the rain and Johannes lent us an umbrella. The grounts were beautiful and we felt right at home. A very charming place with a delightful and hospitable inn keeper. Would definitely stay again and wish we had been able to stay more than one night.
"Absolutely the Best B&B"
I booked this B&B as I was attending a course in Burnaby and my husband was coming with me. This home is beautifully decorated and furnished, but even better the hosts are extremely hospitable and will help you in every way possible. We immediately felt at home when we checked in and they were very accommodating to my schedule as I needed to have my breakfast fairly early. This was not a problem and both days we were served an excellent breakfast. It not only had great taste but was also very beautifully presented. I have been telling everyone about this B&B, it is beyong being the best, it is the very best.
"We Highly Recommend this B&B"
Qualicam Beach, BC
The home is beautifully restored and renovated. The hosts are lovely people who made us feel instantly welcome in their home. The accommodation is luxurious and the breakfast options almost overwhelming in their variety of choice. We have visited the home in summer and winter and the location, close to Deer Lake Park, is great for those wanting to take a walk. A gentle stroll or more vigorous walk are on the doorstep.
This location is close enough to downtown Vancouver yet on a quiet, tree-lined street in a residential neighbourhood.
We highly recommend it.
"An Absolute Eye-of-the-Storm Oasis Hidden in the Heart of Burnaby"
Highways and major driving routes, shopping, business and sky train at your fingertips but you would never know it.
Situated on a dead-end street (pedestrian accessible) that enters into a boardwalk-bordered lake park, this STUNNING house seems to exist in its own little bubble- a time capsule of a place that is fully updated (very elegant work on the restoration, by the way) but the development in the area has left this little street completely secluded. One second you are in six lanes of traffic, the next you are strolling down an empty street toward a massive park while admiring gorgeous homes and looking across a lake at the buildings in Burnaby. Amazing.
We walked to the Hart House Restaurant (a "heritage" property with an interesting history tied to the area) on the boardwalk at night in about 10 minutes- beautiful.
This was my second stay of many to come; there is no need for me to try any other B&B's in the area.
You will not find better hosts, better food (they went WAY out of their way to accommodate our special diets- we are very finicky), better ambiance, better location, better accessibility to amenities or better value anywhere.
Charming, elegant, immaculate, comfortable are words that describe Haddon House Bed and Breakfast.
As a former governor of the Heritage Canada Foundation I have had the pleasure of experiencing numerous B&B's across Canada. Haddon House would rank as one of the finest, authentic restoration projects that my wife and I have seen. It has been beautifully renewed and restored. While all the electrical, plumbing and washroom fixtures are new, it still has the look and feel of a heritage home!
We will remember the gracious hospitality, stimulating conversation and the fabulous gourmet breakfasts! It was so much fun.
"An Extraordinary B&B Experience!"
The home is beautiful and roomy. The food is a true delight. The bedrooms are perfect with great bed linens. The gardens are warm and inviting. The best part was how the owners made you feel so at home. It was very hard to leave!
"The Only Place to Stay in Vancouver!"
Portola Valley, CA
When we stayed at the Haddon House we were welcomed as if we had been family for years. It was our first "stay." Our room was so comfortable and we enjoyed the backyard daily. My daily run was 2 blocks away that took me along the most beautiful lake with a perfect running loop. Our breakfast was something out of Martha Stewart! We cannot sing enough praises for our new friends that own the Haddon House... a job well done.
"Fantastic Breakfast and Fantastic Hosts"
Pemberton, British Columbia
We stayed for one night to make our Metrotown shopping experience more worthwhile.
The location was easy to find down a quiet leafy street and the accommodation was very plush and comfortable. The hosts could not be more welcoming or accommodating and the breakfast was unbelievable!
We had dinner at the Hart House Restaurant, a short walk from the B&B, and had a wonderful meal.
All in all a fabulous stay which I would highly recommend as we will definitely be back.

We recently stayed at Haddon House with my mother, sister and teenage son. My son was involved in a tournament at the Simon Fraser University and so I found the B&B on the internet as it stated it was near SFU. I was reluctant to stay in Burnaby as I thought it would be out of the way for sightseeing while my son was at the SFU but were we ever wrong. This location is perfect as it is so easily accessible to Hwy 1 and other main thoroughfares to get you to all the sites so much quicker than had we stayed in the heart of Vancouver as we were able to bypass all the downtown streets.
The house is in an elegant neighbourhood to reflect how beautiful the Haddon House is. So comfortable were the beds and the use of the outside deck was such a bonus as well having access to the main floor which was so comfortable and gorgeous.
As for Johannes, he is the real deal and a fantastic host and chef. Breakfast was outstanding. They went over and beyond when they made a lunch for my son for the 2 days we were there! And my son loved it!
And Marie-Louise is so genuine! We loved our stay and will be back for sure and tell all our friends to stay there when visiting Vancouver.
"Exquisite Place and People!"
The Haddon House B&B was one of the finest that I have ever had the privilege of staying at. I was in Burnaby on business, examining piano candidates for the Royal Conservatory of Music, and Johannes picked me up from and returned me to the airport, drove me to and from my daily examining route, and they also provided suppers, for which I was extremely grateful. To be so well accommodated was amazing to behold, and I felt totally looked after and completely "part of the family" with Marie-Louise and Johannes.
The Haddon House is located on a quiet street in Burnaby (Buckingham), and it has three lovely guest rooms. I stayed in the Avalon Suite, and it was perfect for my needs, with computer accessibility, and they provided me with a table to do my book work on.
The breakfasts were sumptuous creations, as Johannes studied as a caterer in Switzerland, and the table was always resplendent with fine cutlery, fabric napkins, heated plates (something totally new to me!), and an array of fruit, juice, muffins and croissants. I was even encouraged to take fruit or anything else along as my morning snack, which was very much appreciated, as my day was long!
Their dog was also marvelously well-behaved, and very friendly without being intrusive or 'jumping up', which surprised me, having dogs myself.
I would strongly recommend this fabulous experience to anyone wanting a "home away from home, only better."
I hope to return there the next time my travels take me to Burnaby!

Recently, my husband and I booked a two-night stay at Haddon House B&B in Burnaby, BC and ended up staying for five! Haddon House is a beautiful historic B&B property nestled in a quiet neighbourhood with a nice walking trail and lake close by. The breakfasts prepared and served every morning by Johannes were second to none... delicious, healthy, plenty of choice and beautifully presented. We felt like royalty every morning! Both Johannes and Marie-Louise are warm, engaging hosts with a unique sense of knowing what their guests need before they do. No detail was missed in making our stay in BC a memorable one. Would we recommend staying at Haddon House? Absolutely!
"Elegant and Cozy"
You have created a lovely inn. I loved everything. I can see the detail in everything you have done. I'm sure the Old House is "smiling." You have created an elegant and cozy place. I personally loved the "pillows!" All of them. They are perfect and are found in the right places. On the couches, window seat, chairs and the beds. I enjoyed them all. The towels are plush and smell wonderful, great beds and yes a yummy breakfast every morning.
a Comfortable, Inviting Place to Stay!”
My husband and I recently stayed the weekend at the Haddon
House. The B&B is a historic building set in nearby
Burnaby. Our hosts were so inviting, and accommodated us
arriving in the wee hours of the morning. Our room was
very comfortable, and the amenities were very nice. I would
recommend the Haddon House to anyone visiting Vancouver!
"A Great Place to Stay!"
Johannes and Marie Louise were very welcoming and gracious hosts. We instantly felt at home when we arrived. Our room was very nice and comfortable; as we were traveling with our two dogs, we stayed in the pet-friendly Deerholme suite.
And, of course, the breakfast was delicious! Johannes was kind enough to pack us some leftovers for our drive home to Calgary, which was very much appreciated.
We will absolutely return for another stay at Haddon House, and have recommended it to friends and family!
"An Oasis in Burnaby... or Anywhere!"
I stay at B&B's when I can for business. Haddon House is exceptional- modern but charming. There are 3 rooms with private baths all of which have every modern amenity including large bathrooms with heated floors, wireless and flat screen TV's. Deer Lake park is just a block away with good walking/running trails. The neighbourhood is quiet and upscale so walking or biking the neighbourhood is a pleasure. Johannes and Marie Louise are gracious hosts. The breakfast spread was more than anyone could eat but had incredible variety including fresh fruit, pastry, cereals and pancakes. Everything about Haddon House was my ideal for a B&B. I look forward to staying at Haddon House for either business or pleasure again.
"What a Relaxing Getaway!"
British Columbia, Canada
I'm so happy to have stayed at Haddon House! I urgently needed a relaxing weekend getaway and I sure got it at this Bed and Breakfast. The room I stayed in was absolutely beautiful and the hosts were so nice and accommodating. I didn't have a car so it was really convenient to have Deer Lake right there to spend my time at. I'm definitely going back when I need a quick vacation!
Haddon House B&B was a delightful surprise with its beautiful atmosphere and tastefully furnished suites.
I extended my stay because of the warm hospitality and excellent service.
"Friendly and Comfortable B&B"
My 2 night stay at Haddon House B&B was delightful! The hosts were very friendly and extremely accommodating. And my room was very comfortable and cozy. I would recommend this relatively new B&B for visitors to the Vancouver area who want attentive hosts, comfortable accommodations, and a quiet area away from the hassles of downtown.
Very comfortable stay with welcoming hosts and friendly dog. Quiet, convenient location close to shops and parks. A clean, beautiful, newly remodeled heritage home that easily gets 5 stars from me!
